BSc Chemistry General Paper has two Parts first part is Theory Paper-3 of 75 Marks and General Paper-3 of 25 Marks. That means there are total 100 Marks Obtained in 2nd Year.
BRABU BSc Chemistry General Paper-III Syllabus:
General Paper-III
Full Marks: 75
Five questions are to be set from each group. Student shall answer five questions attempting not more than three from any group.
Group-A : Physical Chemistry
- Physical properties of liquids and their application in e stablishing molecular structure: viscosity, surface tension and refractive index.
- Electrochemistry:
- Standard electrode potential E.M.P and application of e.m.f. measurements.
- Transport number and its measurement by Hittorf’s method.
- Chemical Kinetics and Catalysis:
- Idea of side reactions, opposing reactions and conservative reaction, chain reactions.
- Catalysis : Difinitions and classification. Theory of catalysis. Ideas of acid base and enzyme catalysis.
- Photochemistry: Basic principles, Lambert-Beer Law, Stark- Einstein Law of PC. Equivalence, H2 + Cl2 and H2 + Br2 reactions (only reactions) Quantum yield, Phosphoresience, fluorescence, elementary idea of photoelectron spectroscoph.
Group-B : Inorganic Chemistry
- Atomic Structure and Bonding: Idea of V.B.T. and M.O.T. (qualitative treatments only) MO correlation diagram for homonuclear diatomic molecules.Calculation of bond order on its basis. (b) Complexes: E.A.N. rule, shapes of dorbitals Nomenclature, isomerism.
- Outline of the chemistry involved in the following industries cement, fuel and industrial gases.
- Uses of organic reagents in inorganic analysis: E.D.T.A. dimethyl glyoxime, α-nitrose, β-naphthol, cupefeorn.
- Chemistry of the following elements and important compounds.
- N, P, As
- O, S, Sc
Group-C : Organic Chemistry
- Structure and Mechanism: Hyperconjugation, carbonium and carbanion, carbene, nitrene (imp. reactions involving nitrane formation). Additioh reactions electrophitic and nucleophilic elimination reactions, saytzeff rule. Friedal Craft reaction, Pinacole-pinacolone rearrangement.
- Synthetic Organic Chemistry:
- Malanie ester and use in synthesis A. A. E.
- Use of the following reagents in organic chemistry : Na , HNO2, LiAIlH4 and AiCl3
- Aromaticity and Hiickel’s rule.
BRABU BSc Chemistry General (Practical) Syllabus:
Full Marks- 25 Marks
Group: (A) Inorganic Chemistry
- Gravimetric Analysis: Estimation of Ag+, Fe+2 , Cl– and SO4 -2 (10 marks)
Group B (Physical Chemistry).
- One experiment to be set- 10 marks
- Determination of surface tension of liquids (e.g. Benzene, Acetone, Chloroform) using stalagmometer.
- Determination of Co-efficient of viscosity of liquid e.g. Benzene, Acetone, Chloroform using Ostwald Viscometer.
- Determination of Partition co-efficient of solutes between two immisicible liquids.
- Determination of Molecular Weight of volatile liquid by Victor Meyer Method.
- Record of class work and viva-voce
