BRABU BSc Botany Honors Part-1 Syllabus: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University Under Graduation / BSc Botany Honors 1st Year Syllabus are written in this Article.

BSc Botany Honors will completed in 3 Yeas. Out of which 1st Year Conducted Honors Paper-1 of 75 Marks and Honors Paper-2 (75 Marks) of 150 Marks as well as Practical Paper-1 of 50 Marks also Occur in that Year.

BRABU BSc Botany Honors (Theory) Syllabus:

There shall be two theoretical and one practical papers in the 1st & 2nd year examinations carrying 75 marks in each theory paper & 50 marks in each practical paper. In the 3rd year there shall be three theory and one practical paper carrying 100 marks each. Students of all the three parts are required to participate in botanical excursions organized by the department to enrich the laboratory and their knowledge

Honors Paper-I (Theory)

Ten questions to set, five from group A and five group B, five to be answered, at least two from each group

Group: A Cryptogams

Algae: (1) General characteristics & classification of algae, (2) General characteristics of Cyanophyceae with reference to Oscillatoria and Rivularia, Nostoc, Anabaena, (3) Structure and life history of the following genera with reference to alternation of generation: Volvox, Oedogolnium, Coleochaete, Chara, Ectocarpus, Fucus, Batrachospermum and Polysiphonia. (4) Study of Economics importance of Algae

Fungi: (1) General Characters classification and Economic importance of Fungi, (2) Structures and life history of the following genera : Synchytrium, Albugo, Erysiphe, Peziza, Ustilago, Puccinia, Alternaria, & Cercospora.

Lichen: General Account.

Group-B

Bryophytes : (1) General characteristics, classification and Economic importance of Bryophytes. (2) Structures and life history of the following genera with reference to comparative studies of gametophytes and sporophytes : Marchantia, Pellia, Anthoceros, Sphagnum and Polytrichum.

Pteridophytes : (1) General characters and classification. (2) Stelar evolution. (3) Structures and life history of the following: Psilotum, Lycopodium, Selaginella, Equisetum, Marselia and Azolla.

Fossils : Study of Rhynia, Lepidodendron and Calamites.

(Ecology & Biometry)

Ecology

  1. Historical background of microbiology.
  2. Technique of isolation of micro-organisms and culture media preparation.
  3. Modern concepts of bacterial cell.
  4. Structure and nature of TMV and Bacteriophage.
  5. Role of microbes in nitrogen fixation with particular reference to Bacteria and Cyanobacteria.
  6. Microbial degradation of agricultural produces in storage.
  7. Microbial toxins: Aflatoxin & Algaltoxins.

Biometry

  • Role of toxins in plant-pathogenesis.
  • Role of enzymes in plant-diseases.
  • Important fungal diseases of Bihar – etiology, symptoms and control of the following diseases:
  1. Late blight of Potato.
  2. Loose smut of Wheat.
  3. Rust of Linseed.
  4. Rust of Sugarcane.
  5. Blast disease of Rice.
  • Fungi
  1. Classification of fungi.
  2. Heterothallism in fungi.
  3. Degeneration of sexuality in fungi.
  4. List history of: (i) Synchytrium, (ii) Albugo, (iii) Neurospora, (iv) Puccinia, (v) Alternaria
